You have spent weeks, even months developing your online business just to see it sit there in limbo. Your
page rank is 0, no one has visited your webpage, so you tweak your page design, your key words,
download and play around with optimization software, read how other make their millions, and sit back to
wait for the big money to flow into your paypal account. We've all been there. And it sucks.
I have spent hours, that have turned into days, then weeks, and then months spinning my wheels and
going no place. It's frustrating, and at times I wondered if I was wasting my time. Every time I started to feel
this way, I always remembered something I read that I have used to put the disappointment into
perspective. “Do not under estimate the power of your dreams.”
One of my quirks is that when I find myself at a point where everything comes to a stand still, something
like writer's block, I jump into the forums, blogs, and whatever else I can find, to discover what I have done
wrong, how I can improve my ideas, or find the mistakes others have already dealt with and overcome. It's
either that or self medicate. I sometimes believe in alcohol, drugs, and paranoid delusions. Just kidding.
Many years ago, after a hitch in the military, I re-entered the world of academics. My major was
psychology, and my goal was to listen to peoples problems, charge vast amounts of money, and tell them
to get over it. It never happened. I decided I had my own problems, and I didn't need to listen to the misery
of others. The point I'm getting to is that I began to use some of that schooling to look at what I was trying
to accomplish now. So I put psychology and marketing together. No, it's not a new concept. People much
smarter that I have been doing this for years. Today it's a science unto itself. But what I did was put
together was my three thoughts and started experimenting. Those are:
1. Human beings are inherently lazy.
2. Human beings, given the opportunity to succeed will sabotage that success.
3. Human beings will follow anyone that will validate their own opinions.
I know, it doesn't sound very people orientated, does it? But it is human nature. And human nature is odd
to say the least, and basically predictable. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that you will sell nothing
unless your customers develop at trust in you as a friend. Someone they can trust to offer them
something that will make their lives easier, and more successful, without getting screwed.
The other aspects of these three thoughts are, people want to be unique and will pay a higher price for
something if they perceive that what they buy is better than what your competitors sell.
And finally, if you want to succeed, you will have to get down and get your hands dirty. By this I mean you
will have to use all your expertise, your imagination, determination, and patience to successfully create a
marketing strategy that works for your unique business.
